This restaurant has turned out to be our new favourite spot in Muscat. We have been to both the branches of Bekende (one in Oasis Mall, Al Khuwair and the other on the 18 November Street) and the vibe there was so appealing that we keep going back for more.

The waitstaff was congenial and helpful, friendly and interested in his guests, he was happy to answer any questions regarding the dishes and took interest in helping my kid settle down with colouring papers and crayons.

The menu was a pleasant surprise. Given the restaurant’s name and pictures of burgers and on their website, I thought I’d be seeing more of burgers but to my delight, there is also far more interesting fare on offer.

There are salads in the menu, which I mention because I should, though I don’t know who would order a salad here after seeing the tempting photos of various dishes displayed on the menu.

So starting with the various dishes we have tried out on our numerous visits there:

Aranchini Balls – Fried risotto balls with mozzarella, tomato, jalapeños and herbs comes with a side dip of Chilli Mayo. I loved the crispy texture of these and together with the dip, it was truly amazing. Though I wouldn’t have minded a little more spice worked in, but they were still in the “I’m more than happy to finish this” category.

Tex Mex Devil Fries (sweet potato fries with cheese, jalapeños and chicken) –  I had always been a fan of sweet potato and imagine my excitement when I saw this on the menu. Turned out to be an absolute favourite starter of mine and definitely going back for this again and again.

Normal loaded Potato fries (I forgot the exact name) – These were a tasty start, presented nicely, topped with cheese, jalapeños, chilli, herbs and thin pieces of pulled beef.

Kapow Dynamite Shrimps – Popcorn shrimp fried and topped with a garlic, chilli, mayo mixed dip called Kapow sauce. This was the only starter that disappointed us in all our visits here. The coating on the shrimps were all soggy and it didn’t taste as fresh as it should.

Sliders & Burgers:

If I eat a decent burger do you need to know about it? I’d say most burgers I consume fall into the “pretty good” category; not fully memorable or in the top pantheon, but certainly worth your hard earned cash if you are in need of a burger fix. So you need to know about below mentioned sliders and burger as they are above average and the only downside I could find where with the buns which has a sweet flavour to it that didn’t go all that well with the spicy fillings inside. But this is purely a personal preference and I am sure there might be people who actually prefer a little sweetness to balance out the spice.

Original Cheese Rocker slider – One thing that you cannot go wrong when you order a burger is a classic cheese burger and these people have absolutely nailed it. 5/5 for this one here.

Barbacoa slider – This pulled beef slider was yet another dish that stood out and I would rank this one a 5/5 again.

Spicy Beef Kofta slider – As the name suggests, a Mediterranean style slider which was not a favourite of mine out of all three sliders. It could be given a rating of 3/5 stars.

Barbacoa Burger – Since the Barbacoa slider was a hit among us, we had a go at the burger version of it too on our next visit and surely enough, it didn’t disappoint. The fries (an extra side) were exactly what I imagine when I think of good fries — thick enough to stand up to the elements, with a full potato taste.

Penne Pasta in pink sauce with chicken and mushrooms – Customized this according to my taste preference and turned out to be one of the best pasta I have had around town. If you are like me, who likes lots of sauce in their pasta, then this is the place to stop by and I assure you that your tummy will thank you.

Rib Eye Steak (it came with a super yummy pepper gravy sauce) – Another unexpected success was the steak which is not something we usually order from anywhere other than a proper steakhouse. We had it cooked to “medium well” and we were so happy with the dish that not only was it devoured with such fervour but we also ordered it again on our next visit.

Melting Dome – it’s melting white chocolate dome with a berry pudding like stuff inside served with a scoop of chocolate ice-cream. I am usually not a sweet tooth kinda person, so had only few spoonfuls of this dessert and was not all that impressed by it.

Mid Summer Dream (MSD), Green Apple and Peach Iced Tea, Mint and Lemon Cooler, some Red berry drink (I forgot it’s name) but it’s one of the 3 most popular drinks there. Every single drink is a must try, especially the MSD, absolutely refreshing.

All said and done, we have a restaurant here that is consistently keeping up the food quality, taste and service standards which combined are hard to come by these days. They’re clearly on a roll here!!!!

So until next time, have a great week you all!
